I have been around the water and boats most of my life in one capacity or another along the Texas coast and lakes. From inflatables up to larger ships I have enjoyed being on the water fishing, water sports or just hanging out enjoying the weather. By day I do tech support for a major IT company. I got into sailing in 2014 when a friend of mine took me out on his Watkins sailboat Scout and taught me the ropes/lines. I look forward to planning fleet events this year and getting more club members out on the water. When we are not out on the Star I like to play guitar at local open mics and jams.
Currently I have a 1986 33′ Watkins Seawolf sailboat and I have recently acquired a 2007 Boston Whaler Sport 150.
Gaye Mountain
I have been on the water for many years and along with my husband Jeff Mountain just completed the Loop. The organization and planning skills that this great experience developed are a good fit with the Vice Commodore position. I am pleased to be part of the WYC Board of Directors and look forward to supporting a great year of boating activities and helping with club organization.

Elfie Boersma
Elfie is the youngest of 11 children and immigrated to Minneapolis with her Dutch family when she was two years old.
Her love of boating began after moving to Houston in 1976. She and future husband Bill Adams discovered upper Galveston Bay from the deck of a Boston Whaler Harpoon 5.2 daysailer. The boating bug quickly ballooned into a Bayfield 40′ sailboat, on which they left Houston for cruising grounds in 1991.
After six years of exploring the Gulf and East Coasts and the Bahamas, they went hard aground in Denver. Employment opportunities brought them back to Houston in 2002 and with it the desire for another boat. They bought a Glacier Bay 26′ power catamaran in 2006 and christened her Relapse.
Retired now from career in Oil & Gas, Elfie leaves Houston during the summer. She and Bill tow Relapse to cooler climes. Their latest explorations include the inside passage to Alaska, the Great Lakes and the Canadian Maritime Provinces. Relapse is berthed most of the year on Waterford Pier 9.
Elfie has been a WYC member since 2008, and previously served as WYC treasure and social director.
Jeff Mountain
I have been on the water for many years and along with my wife Gaye Mountain just completed the Loop. This once in a lifetime experience gives me additional insight into boat operations and safety which I will bring to the members of WYC. I am enthusiastic about serving as your Rear Commodore and look forward to expanding members knowledge and interest in cruising our coastal and inland waters.

Daven Voorhies
I’ve been near the ocean and on pleasure boats since childhood in Los Angeles. There I learned basic seamanship, topside maintenance, and pram sailing. While finishing college my young bride, Vickie, and I honeymooned on board the family twin diesel motor yacht for five months. Fast forward to 2013, past a move to Houston, various energy industry analytic jobs, two sons, and five grandsons, Vickie and I are on the water again in a 38′ Beneteau Oceanis. I’m retired and have served WYC members as Commodore and in several other positions since 2016.

Vickie Voorhies
I grew up in Los Angeles and always wanted to be near the water. My husband Daven and I moved our young family to Houston in the early 80’s, and in 2013 were ready for boat ownership. We bought the De Bonte Koe and have had lots of wonderful times on Galveston Bay and at the dock. I earned my accounting degree while the children were growing up and have been an accountant/analyst in the oil and gas industry for more than 25 years. I enjoy assisting with WYC many social activities that keep WYC fun and the responsibility of keeping the Club activities and financial accounts in balance. It has been my pleasure to serve as the Treasurer of WYC since 2016.

Simone Gordon
Simone has always had a love of the water, spending most of her first 50 years living near Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. She sailed some in the lake but mostly enjoyed water skiing and eating at the array of waterfront restaurants. She met her husband, Michael, at Tulane where they both studied engineering, partied hard, and shared a love of the lake, the area bayous, and boating.
After a change of careers into Nursing (really just engineering of the body) Simone and Michael relocated to Houston where they eventually found themselves without a boat for the first time in their marriage. Their plan was to buy a sailboat, but after a weekend of sailing lessons in Clear Lake, found themselves gravitating toward power boating again. In 2018 they joined the WYC with their boat, Navarre Pearl, and have enjoyed getting to know all their comrades in WYC. As one of the Social Directors she will help the club stay on course for another enjoyable year. Simone previously served as Fleet Director in 2019.

Evan Bauman
I’ve retired from the Shell Oil Company after a 30 year career as a chemical engineer with various roles in chemical technology and information technology. For the last nine years, I was the application development manager for a Shell subsidiary leading a team of people developing and supporting customized applications for the catalyst business. I also served for 20 years as CIO of my wife, Wendy’s, intellectual property law firm, The Buskop Law Group. Wendy is also retired and we enjoy cruising our P/V Amnesia, a big Meridian pilothouse yacht, to destinations near and far from our WHM home port. We both hold 50 ton Masters licenses.
